On the under-card of the promotion that saw Gennady Golovkin stop Kell Brook, in a monumental five round clash, Callum Smith added another win to his record.
Smith, biding his time as he waits for his tilt at the super-middleweight title currently held by Badou Jack, made a defence of his WBC ?silver? super-middleweight title.
His opponent was the Hungarian Norbert Nemesapati who has fought at light heavyweight as well as super-middleweight.
Twenty-six year-old Smith controlled the fight with Nemesapati intent on survival. Indeed when the Hungarian did decide to mix things up he invariably came off second best as proven in the sixth round when he was floored by a body-shot.
Nemesapati managed to beat the count but didn?t come out for the next round and Smith had his victory.
The Liverpudlian remains the mandatory challenger for the version of the title held by Badou Jack but with their being talk of a unification fight between Badou Jack and our very own James DeGale, Callum Smith could very well find himself in with the winner of that bout, sometime next year.
In the mean-time, Callum is expected to keep busy with an appearance in his home town in October.
