On September 7th, at the Scottish Exhibition Centre, in Glasgow, Ricky Burns will be defending his WBO lightweight belt against the #6 WBO rated Raymundo Beltran.

If Burns defence is successful then the subject of who?ll be next in line for the Scot to face is already being discussed.

In the frame to meet Burns next is the #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford, but Burns promoter, Eddie Hearns has other ideas and would like to match his man with Miguel Vazquez, Richard Abril or whoever claims the WBC belt.

Speaking about the route forward, Hearn has remarked to the media,

?That?s very nice of Bob (Arum) to decide the future of our fighter, we?ll decide what we want to do, not Bob. HBO would like that fight (Crawford), and obviously it?s a big fight at Madison Square Garden. I think Ricky?s ready for the big fights, and go in after fight and go in and have a unification. I?m not being disrespectful to Crawford, but he doesn?t bring that much to the table other than perhaps a couple of dollar bills. Ricky at the moment wants to unify the division; he wants the Ring belt.?

Fair play to Ricky for showing his ambition and fair play to Eddie for standing his ground, but as we found out with Nathan Cleverly last weekend, let?s just take it one fight at a time because, in this sport, everything can come crashing down around your ears right in front off your very eyes.
