After appearing to struggle in his last three fights, in one of which he lost his lightweight world title, Ricky Burns has announced that he is moving up in weight to light-welterweight,
Burns, now 31 years of age, is targeting a third world title having won world honours at super-featherweight and lightweight.
In announcing the move up a division his manager Alex Morrison has thrown light on the possibility that Burns was struggling to make the weight with Morrison remarking,
‘Ricky was finding it increasingly harder to make the weight.?
‘He was virtually eating nothing before the weigh in and I think that had a lot to do with his last three performances.’
‘He is just looking forward to October and fighting at the new weight. We’re planning on him winning a third world title.’
It?ll be interesting to see who Burns first opponent is at his new weight and how quickly he can progress.
