Every boxer harbours ambitions of fighting at the legendary venue that is Madison Square Garden, New York.

One of our current crop of world champions, Ricky Burns, could see that ambition realised if he can successfully defend his WBO light-welterweight title against Raymundo Beltran on September 7th.

Reports from the US, via the Top Rank promoter Bob Arum, suggest Arum is very keen for the winner of the Burns v Beltran fight to appear in a promotion at Madison Square Garden against the #1 WBO challenger Terence Crawford with Arum remarking,

?I think this is a 50-50 fight. There?s an advantage of Ricky Burns fighting on his home turf, but I have a guy that believes in himself in Beltran.

?The winner of this fight in Madison Square Garden against [Terence] Crawford as part of a big doubleheader.?

So it looks as if there is a big incentive for Burns to do well on 7th September I?d say!

  • what a great opportunity although he’ll need to do better than last time out when he was in trouble until his opponent tired!
