October 7th will soon be upon us and an all-British lightweight fight dominating our thoughts.

Anthony Crolla and Ricky Burns will go head-to-head at the Manchester Arena.

Ahead of the bout both boxers are making all the right noises when it comes to there being a civilised build up to the fight, following the trend set by Anthony Joshua and Wladimir Klitschko before they met at Wembley Stadium in April.

Talking to the media, Anthony Crolla had this to say about his opponent,

‘I can’t wait for the fight.

‘There will be a great travelling support from Scotland and I’ll be in front of my beloved Manchester crowd.

‘I’ve got a lot of respect for Ricky as a fighter and a person. I’ll have to be at my best to beat him.’

He certainly will, coming of those two losses to Jorge Linares, Crolla knows a loss against Burns could derail any hopes of another shot at a world title.

Similarly, Burns who lost his world title to Julius Indongo, had this to say about Crolla,

‘Everyone who knows boxing, Ricky’s not the type to be trash-talking and neither am I.

‘Everyone who knows boxing knows that this is a fight that doesn’t need that to sell. Come 7 October in that arena, there’s going to be an amazing atmosphere.

‘It’s going to be some night. The preparations have been going very well and I’m in a very good place, physically and mentally. I’m just looking forward to the fight and believe I could be ready sooner.

‘We can’t wait for it and the winner, I’m sure, will go on to fight for a world title again. I know that I’ve got to be at my best to beat him but I’m very confident that’s what I will be.’

Let?s hope the build-up stays as respectful and as pleasant as it is at the moment.
