On the under-card of the Manchester Arena fight-card last night, was an interesting encounter for the British bantamweight title.

The bout matched the up and coming Belfast fighter Ryan Burnett with the veteran fighter from Nottingham Jason Booth.

Booth, at thirty-eight years of age, was looking to become the first fighter for eighty years to win British titles at three weights whilst twenty-three year old Burnett was looking to impress those behind the Matchroom stable after joining them having been previously managed by Ricky Hatton.

Burnett got off to a dream start flooring Booth in the first round, but the veteran got to his feet and used all his experience and guile to survive. Booth was in further trouble again in rounds five and eight as Burnett, going past six rounds for the first time in his career, looked to stop his opponent.

After twelve interesting rounds it was Burnett who took the verdict on the score-cards with all three judges awarding him the decision by a score of 120-107.

For Burnett the future looks good but for Booth his career is now all but over.
