Over at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, the Welsh fighter Gary Buckland failed in his attempt to land the vacant Commonwealth lightweight title.
The Welshman, coming off of a loss to Gavin Rees in his last fight was pitched in against Richard Commey, from Ghana.
Commey entered the fight with a record that suggested he was a big puncher having won his 17 previous fights inside 8 rounds.
However, Buckland was to lose on points with Commey emerging a comfortable winner with scores of:-
? 117 ? 111
117 ? 111
118 ? 110
all in his favour.
Although Buckland lost his efforts did see him stun Commey with several punches, particularly overhand rights in the early rounds. Commey started to take control of the fight from the middle rounds on and Buckland appeared to tire.
Matters weren?t helped when Buckland was docked a point, in round eleven, for hitting his opponent around the back of the head.
After two losses on the bounce Buckland and his team have some decisions to make about his career although at the age of 28 you?d imagine there is time for the fighter to come again.
