The Rio Olympics may have been in full flow but the time difference is playing hell with my ability to watch the action in the Olympic Boxing Hall.
However, and much to my pleasure, I did catch the British light-heavyweight Joshua Buatsi in his latest fight.
The highly ranked Buatsi has reached the semi-finals of the Olympic competition and will take on the Kazakhstan fighter Adilbeck Niyazymbetov in a bout which guarantees the loser a bronze medal but gives the winner the chance to go for gold with a silver as the consolation prize.
Buatsi?s quest for a place in the Olympic final will take place tomorrow (Tuesday).
However, whatever the outcome of that semi-final fight the 23-year-old is tipped for much bigger things with none other than Floyd Mayweather Junior telling Buatsi at a recent meeting,
‘He said to me he had heard about me before I got here and that I was a great fighter, a future world champion.
‘It was good to hear that from someone like Mayweather, who I think is the greatest boxer of our generation.
‘I want to dominate in every way I can, and I want more than bronze. I will give it everything that I’ve got to make sure I get a gold.’
Tune in tomorrow and watch Buatsi go for a place in the Olympic light-heavyweight final.
