With the heavyweight scene finally coming to life with some great characters looking to make their mark, there?s a Australian who wants his share of the limelight and action.

Although Wladimir Klitschko, Deontay Wilder and Tyson Fury are receiving some great press coverage, a certain Lucas ?Big Daddy? Browne is set to shake up the division.

Managed by Hatton promotions, Browne is set to face Ruslan Chagaev for the WBA championship, as the mandatory challenger.

A venue has yet to be decided but Browne would love to become the first Australian heavyweight world champion in the first heavyweight world title fight in Australia since 1908.

Speaking about what he believes is his destiny, Browne has remarked to the media,

?It?s a really exciting stage of my career. I?m ready to become Australia?s first ever heavyweight champion.

?Even though there?s no date set, I?ve begun training already and I?m really going the extra mile to make sure the WBA belt is mine.

?I?m happy to fight Chagaev anywhere but if it?s in Australia I know it?ll be huge. The public would love to see me knock him out to win the belt and I plan on doing exactly that.

?I?ve got a great team around me. Guys like Ricky Hatton and Jeff Fenech, who know what it takes to become champion. I take in their advice and put it into action. I?m one of the most exciting heavyweights in the world. I don?t like leaving it in the hands of the judges and that?s what the fans love to see. I plan on putting Chagaev to sleep.?

Confident words indeed from what many see as a champion in the waiting, words that Ricky Hatton has echoed, remarking to the media,

?Every time Lucas has stepped up he?s performed and impressed people.?
?I expect him to exactly the same against Chagaev.

?If the fight is in Australia then it?ll be one of the biggest events the country has ever seen. Australia fans are some of the best in the world and I think they?ll fill a stadium for this one.?

We?ll endeavour to keep an eye on when the venue and date are confirmed.
