At the Colosseum Sport Hall, in Grozny, Russia, Lucas Browne stopped Ruslan Chagaev with a tenth round stoppage.
In doing so Browne claimed the WBA heavyweight crown held by Chagaev, although we should point out the ?real? WBA heavyweight champion is Tyson Fury who is deemed the WBA heavyweight ?super? champion.
Nevertheless Browne, who took his record to 24-0 with the win is no recognised as a big-player on the heavyweight scene.
Browne, managed by Ricky Hatton, stopped Chagaev in the 10th round with a big right hand that sent the champion to the canvas.
However, Browne didn?t have it all his own way in the fight and was knocked down in the sixth himself with Chagaev going all out for a stoppage.
But the champion put everything into trying for that sixth round stoppage and just appeared to run out of gas, leaving the way open for Browne to overcome the knockdown and a cut eye to claim a version of the world heavyweight title.
We wait to see who Browne will fight next as he looks to capitalise on a night he must have dreamed about since turning professional
