Saturday May 27th is the day that two great welterweights will climb into the ring to see who will exit the ring with the IBF belt.
Bramall Lane, the home of Sheffield United, will be the venue when the current IBF world welterweight champion, Kell Brook, will put his belt on the line against the unbeaten American Errol Spence.
Spence has had 22 fights winning them all and ending 18 of them early by the big KO.
For Brook it will be the fourth defence of the IBF welterweight title he won off of Shawn Porter with the Sheffield United supporting boxer opting to return to welterweight after moving up to middleweight for that ill-fated fight against the middleweight king Gennady Golovkin.
At a pre-fight press conference yesterday, a conference where the two fighters went head-to-head for the first time, Brook had this to say about the forthcoming fight,
‘I’m so excited about this fight and to make history in my city.
‘It’s long been a dream of mine to fight outdoors at Bramall Lane and I’m pleased to do that in the biggest fight in the welterweight division.
‘All I’ve ever wanted to do is to give the fans the fights they want and they have it right here on May 27.
‘I’m going to show the world that I’m the best welterweight on the planet and I’m going to do it right before my people’s eyes.’
However, Spence is convinced he?ll topple Brook as the IBF world welterweight title holder, remarking to the media,
‘I’m happy I’m finally getting an opportunity to accomplish a lifelong dream of becoming a World champion.
‘This is one of the best and biggest fights in world boxing and I am 100% focused and determined to bring the belt back home to the USA.?
As for the promoter of the show, Eddie Hearn, he did his best to ramp up ticket sales commenting,
‘It’s ‘The Special One’ vs ‘The Truth’, a historic event at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane – we are planning an unforgettable night.’
It?s a date marked down in my diary, bring it on, it could be a classic fight.
