Yesterday we were all caught by surprise when it was announced that Kell Brook would be taking on the legend that is Gennady Golovkin.

The fight will see Brook move up from welterweight to middleweight to take Golovkin on for his WBC, WBA and IBF middleweight belts.

Golovkin is a fierce opponent and has won all 35 of his professional fights with 32 of those wins coming by way of knockout.

The bout will take place in London on 10th September and although it means Brook moving up in weight the Sheffield fighter has no apprehensions about doing so, remarking,

‘When this fight was offered I accepted in a minute. I’m a huge welterweight and I will carry my speed, accuracy and power through the weights.

‘This is the ultimate fight, one of the biggest international fights this country has seen in many years.

‘You have seen some huge names run from Golovkin but I’m running to him. I’m a special fighter and I will show the world on 10 September.’

Golovkin, talking about the forthcoming bout, had this to say,

‘I’m very excited to be fighting in front of the great British boxing fans and promise another ‘big drama’ show.?

All the media talk had been about Chris Eubank Jnr facing Golovkin but it appears the talks got bogged down and Brook has, as they say, beaten Eubank Jnr to the punch.

The fight will be Golovkin?s first visit to fight in a British ring although amongst his 32 stoppages he has beaten Matt Macklin (in 3 rounds) and Martin Murray (in 11 rounds).

It has all the hallmarks of being a great night, stick it in your diary and prepare to be enthralled.
