Following his recent loss to Gennady Golovkin, there were questions asked at which weight Kell Brook would be fighting at in future.
These questions led to the suggestion that Brook, if he decides to move up a weight, could relinquish his IBF world welterweight belt.
Today, in a public announcement, Brook insisted that there was no way he was going to give up the belt he worked so hard to win.
The 30-year-old Sheffield fighter also spoke about which direction he sees his future going, remarking,
‘I want the welterweight unification fights but if they aren’t there then it will be Errol Spence Jr next in a big UK show.
‘I know there are options at 154lb and I may even be more suited there, but I am not willing to give up what I fought so hard for.’
Also, with Amir Khan now making the right noises about taking on Brook at 147 pound, the loss to Golovkin could soon be seen as a blessing in disguise for the fighter who is back in sparring after the operation to fix his broken eye socket proved to be a success.
