This Saturday, at the O2 Arena, in London, Kell Brook tops the bill.
Sheffield?s Brook will be taking on Birmingham?s Frankie Gavin in the second defence of his IBF version of the welterweight crown.
The domestic tear-up is featured on Sky Sports this weekend in a pay-per-view event, something that hasn?t gone down with many pugilist fans.
Now whether Gavin can produce the kind of performance to take Brook the distance or even snatch the title off of Brook remains to be seen.
Brook, since winning the belt from Shawn Porter, has, many feel, taken easy options even though Jo Jo Dan was supposed to be a mandatory defence.
Today, both fighters attended a press conference and Brook took the opportunity to boast about his belief he was the best welterweight on the planet, remarking that he was,
‘Looking to seek and destroy and show everyone that I’m number one in the welterweight division’.
Gavin, giving as good as he got, knows he has to be totally on top of his game this Saturday night and responded with,
‘This looked like a long shot a year ago but I’d like to thank Kell for the opportunity to fight for his title and I’m ready to win it. On my day I’m up there with the best in the world.’
As somebody who has been a world amateur champion, Gavin should never be written off, but to me it is a tall task and on the evidence of the last two fights the pair have participated on, my money is on Brook retaining his title.
How about you?
