Over in the USA, at Carson just outside the City of Angels, Sheffield?s Kell Brook fulfilled a lifetime?s dream when he took a majority verdict over the Champion Shawn Porter.

It was, at times a brutal fight with Porter seemingly intent on marching forward, arms flailing in order to nullify anything Brook had to offer.

Cheered on by his fans, Brook got off to a slow start as Porter charged forward, the challenger picked up a nasty looking cut, above his left eye, courtesy of a clash of heads, but, even though he was under pressure, Brook was landing the cleaner punches.

A couple of times Brook had his man in trouble towards the end of a round but there was never enough time to step in and finish the job. The break between rounds always seemed to allow the American to re-charge his batteries.

The cuts problem was evened out in the sixth round when Porter received a cut above his right eye after another clash of heads. But, as the rounds progressed, Porter seemed to be tiring and Brook upped the ante, landing cleaner punches.

The last round saw Porter make one last effort but too many punches were missing the target and were too wide of the mark.

At the final bell we had the inevitable wait for the result but, surprisingly in America, the two judges sided with Brook whilst Dave Parish made it a 114-114 draw.

Congratulations Kell Brook the new IBF world welterweight champion of the world.
