News was released this afternoon that Nick Blackwell had come out of his induced coma.

The former British middleweight champion had been placed in an induced coma after his loss to Chris Eubank Jnr, when he collapsed in his corner after the fight had been stopped in the tenth round.

The inference was that the medical staff were looking to reduce the dosage of medicine he was receiving towards the back end of last week and with that the case it seems Blackwell regained consciousness on Saturday.

Hennessey Sports, releasing the news about Blackwell, issued a statement that read:

‘It was the outcome everyone had been hoping and praying for; Nick had won his toughest fight yet.

‘Nick Blackwell won the hearts of over three million television viewers on 26 March with an astonishing display of all-action bravery and determination.

‘In the past week, however, he has humbled millions more. He’s a fighter. He’s a warrior. He’s a true champion and gentleman.

‘On behalf of Nick, his family, and very close friends, we’d like to thank everyone for their continued support and well-wishes. It has been overwhelming at times and has certainly not gone unnoticed.’

It is the news we all hoped for and we hope that Nick now goes on to make a full recovery.
