Getting back into the ring, even if it was only for a sparring session, seems an incredibly foolish thing to do when you?ve had to retire from boxing after a serious head injury.

Quite why Nick Blackwell chose to do so remains unclear, as does why a trainer (Liam Wilkins) and a fellow boxer (Hasan Karkardi) indulged him in his desire to do so.

Today all those involved, except Nick Blackwell, will be appearing at a British Boxing Board of Control hearing.

It seems that the unfortunate Blackwell isn?t considered well enough to be able to attend with reports suggesting that the ex-British middleweight, just 26-years-of-age, won?t be his former self for a considerable time yet.

Blackwell, unable to walk at the moment, could take up to a year to fully recover and will still be required to undergo another operation to replace the part of the skull that was removed to ease the swelling on his bran after that foolish sparring session.

When the results of the hearing, in Cardiff, are released we?ll report further.
