On the under-card of the Froch v Kessler thriller, Tony Bellew had a re-match with the Malawian fighter, Isaac Chilemba.

It?s fair to say the first fight, at the Liverpool Echo Arena, didn?t live up to expectations with it ending in a draw. Last night the pair put on a better showing with Bellew emerging victorious, on points with the scorecard?s reading, 117-112, 116-112 and 116-112.

Bellew controlled the fight throughout and only had to cope with a few awkward moments late on as Chilemba tried to engineer a knockout.

The Liverpudlian fighter is now the mandatory challenger for the WBC version of the light-heavyweight crown and could soon be facing the current champion, Chad Dawson.

Speaking after the fight, and using some colourful language, Bellew remarked,

‘I’ve been through hell and I’ve tortured myself since the last fight.?

‘I’ve had to put up with some stick with people doubting me on forums and on Twitter, but everyone questioned the wrong person.?

‘I went straight back into training camp and I’ve hated boxing these last eight weeks.?

‘The difference this time was I wasn’t dead on my feet after seven rounds like I was before when I was lucky not to go out on a stretcher.?

‘But I will fight until I’ve not got anything left. You have to put me on the floor to beat me. I’m just so happy. I stuck with it and he didn’t want it.’
