The action really is coming thick and fast these days when it comes to world title fights.
After witnessing Anthony Crolla put in a superb display but lose his crown two weeks ago and then watching, on Saturday Ricky Burns retain his title on points, it is now time to start the big build-up to the first defence of the WBC world cruiserweight title that Tony Bellew will be making this coming weekend.
Bellew will be fighting at the Liverpool Echo Arena this Saturday night and will be making the first defence of a title he won with a third round knockout over Ilunga Makabu last May. Bellew has side-stepped a mandatory defence against Mairis Breidis, to take on the #14 contender BJ Flores.
Flores has a record that reads 32-2-1 with 20 wins coming by way of knockout compared to Bellew?s record of 27-2-1 with 17 wins coming by way of stoppage.
Here at Vital Boxing we feel that Bellew is in for a far easier evening against Flores than he would have done against Breidis, but if, as we expect Bellew wins this fight Breidis will have to be the next opponent.
There?ll be more on Bellew v Flores as the week progresses.
