On the under-card of the SSE Arena promotion, in Belfast, the local boxer Paddy Barnes continued to impress.

Barnes, matched against the Nicaraguan fighter, Elicer Quezada, won the vacant WBO Intercontinental flyweight bout, stopping his opponent in the sixth round of a bout scheduled for twelve rounds.

For Barnes it was a fifth professional win and moves the Irishman into the top 10 of the WBO rankings.

Talking about the fight, after the victory, Barnes described it as

?The best performance of my career.?

Barnes was impressive from the start, and had his opponent on the canvas in the second round, from then on in there was only ever going to be one winner.

It?ll be interesting to see how quickly Barnes is given the chance to fight for the world title.
