Today Audley Harrison announced that he is hanging up his gloves.
It is the second time that Audley has announced his retirement but, this time, the 43 year old undoubtedly means it.
After suffering a devastating loss in his last fight, against the soon to be world champion Deontay Wilder, Harrison hasn?t boxed since and it appears that the 2000 Olympic gold medal winner in the super-heavyweight category has been suffering health problems.
Talking about his retirement, Harrison has remarked
‘After years of denial and sticking to my guns, I’m finally getting out of my own way.
‘I’ve suffered a few traumatic brain injuries (TBIs) and will have to work hard to reverse some of the effects taking punches to the head has brought about to my overall health.
‘I have vision problems, vestibular injuries that lead to balance disturbances, and have bouts of serious irritability and moodiness that come with TBI recovery.’
It also seems that despite his success in the ring Harrison has money problems and is expected to file for bankruptcy.
Hopefully the world of boxing will look after someone who had such big ambitions but invariably came up short.
