On what promises to be an epic weekend for British fight-fans, the Welsh flyweight prospect got the action started last night.

Down in Cardiff, Andrew Selby took on the Nicaraguan fighter, Cristofer Rosales, in an eliminator for the WBC world flyweight title.

In just his ninth fight Andrew Selby took the victory and now is just one fight away from becoming a world title holder like his older brother Lee.

However, if the home crowd thought it was going to be an easy nights? work for Andrew Selby they were in for an early shock.

In the first-round Rosales stunned the home crowd by putting Andrew Selby on the canvas.

Thankfully, the Welshman recovered and went on to display his full repertoire of skills to win the bout by a wide points decision with the judges scoring the fight as follows:

? 118 ? 109
? 117 ? 110
? 118 ? 109

all in favour of Andrew Selby.

In his post-fight interview, Andrew Selby came up with a surprise admission relating to his participation in what is a brutal sport, remarking,

‘I don’t learn moves in the ring, it just comes naturally, to be honest, I don’t really like boxing. If I did like it, can you imagine how good I would be?.

‘I want to make money in life, so that is why I fight. At least I am honest.

‘I’ve got a chance (to make money) because I will be fighting for a world title.

‘Who likes getting punched in the face? I don’t. I just like the cheques.’

It kind of sums it all up I suppose!
