Reflecting on the events at the Phones4U Arena, in Manchester last night, my vote for the fight of the undercard goes to the contest between Sam Eggington and Denton Vassell.
The fight, made at welterweight, saw the younger of the fighters, Eggington, show that he could be a name in this weight division over the coming years.
Faced with a far more experience opponent, Eggington used his boxing skills to pick off Vassel as he poured forward. The younger fighter also showed his ability to alternate between body and head shots as he boxed cleverly and built up an early lead.
Vassell seemed keen to lunge forward and did have success but Eggingtom weathered the storm and when he launched an attack in round eight Vassell was in trouble.
Moving in for the kill, Eggington picked his punches landing three or four heavy blows that drew no response from his opponent prompting the referee to step in to prevent Vassell from taking an unnecessary punishment.
And the Fight of the Manchester Undercard Was?????
