Promises to fight Brook within 12 months
Kell Brook, Adrien Broner et al will have to get in line because Amir Khan just shocked the fight world by announcing that he will fight American Chris Algieri next on May 30th.
Or at least that part of the fight world that watches his wife?s YouTube channel ? that?s where the Khan broke the news.
With one loss in 21 fights ? and that a points defeat at the hands of Manny Pacquaio in November ? former kickboxer Algieri is an ?A-class opponent? claims Khan.
Khan pre-empted the announcement by telling Brook via Sky Sports that he will give the Sheffield fighter what he wants within 12 months.
Brook?s manager Eddie Hearn expressed his doubts about Khan?s desire to fight his man.
The Bolton welterweight hasn?t fought for six months and aims to fit in another bout within the next year; Brook plans to fight twice this summer.
According to Sky the Algieri fight will take place at Brooklyn?s Barclay Center. Khan said:
??(Algieri?s) fought and beaten decent opponents and just fell short against Manny Pacquiao, who is a star. We?re looking at fighting in New York? it?ll be good for UK fans in a way? it?s not as far away as Las Vegas? Hopefully this can lead me on to bigger fights in the future.?
