In Las Vegas last night, at the T-Mobile Arena, Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez went head-to-head with Julio Cesar Chavez.

There was no world title at stake with the fight being made at a catch-weight of 164 pounds.

The fight was supposed to be an intriguing match-up between two fighters eager to further enhance their reputations.

Instead it turned into a one-sided affair with Alvarez totally dominating the fight.

After twelve rounds the scorecards reflected Alvarez?s dominance with the scores given as:

? 120 ? 108
? 120 ? 108
? 120 ? 108

All in favour of Saul ?Canelo? Alvarez.

The fight saw Alvarez land a total of 228 punches compared to the 71 landed by Chavez, such was the ease with which Alvarez won the fight, not once did the Mexican use his stool between rounds, preferring to stand and chat to his corner-men.

After the fight, Alvarez had this to say,

‘I showed I can move, box and do all those things against a fighter who was bigger.

‘He wouldn’t throw punches.’

A disappointing fight that never fulfilled its expectations.
