Watching the excellent and hugely entertaining Sky Sports programme, Ringside, it was very interesting to hear the Liverpool super-middleweight, Paul Smith, talk about an upcoming world title fight against the WBO super-middleweight champion Arthur Abraham.
Smith spoke about the fight going ahead, in Berlin, when a suitable venue could be found and that the contracts were to be signed.
However, indications coming from the Sauerland promotional team indicate that Smith v Abraham may not be as cut and dry as first thought. Rumours are circulating that Abraham may be pitched in with a fighter of, to put it bluntly, more commercial appeal than the #6WBO contender Smith.
Talking about the apparent confusion, Kalle Sauerland has remarked,
?Just to confirm Abraham v Smith is not done. It is a fight we are interested in doing but we have not reached an agreement as of yet.?
But, with the rumours gathering momentum, it appears that the opponent being lined up for Abraham could be a certain George Groves. Now whilst I?m a huge fan of Groves, I?m struggling to see how selecting Groves for a third world title fight in succession, on the back of two defeats to Carl Froch, is a viable proposition.
What are you views on the subject?
Although Smith suffered a defeat against Groves, surely his recent progress has earned him the right to be next in the queue?
Abraham to Fight Groves Not Smith?
