As a born and bred Lutonian I?ve always admired the boxers that have come from our town and made an impact in the sport, the two most recent fighters being Billy Schwer and Graham Earl.

However it seems that the latter has fallen from grace big-time!

Earl, who recently made a comeback to the sport, losing to Michael Katsidis, in Australia, has been sentenced to seven years in prison for conspiring to supply drugs in North Hertfordshire and the surrounding areas.

During his career, Earl touched the hearts of Lutonian’s with his displays, winning the Commonwealth lightweight title before losing his attempt to wrestle the world lightweight title off of Michael Katsidis, at Wembley, in 2007. The fight was a brutal one with both fighters hitting the canvas before Earl was forced to retire after five rounds.

Earl tried to get back into the big time when he took on a young Amir Khan ten months later but was blasted out inside a round, courtesy of some savage and lightning quick punching from the Bolton man.

Seven years is a long time for someone to reflect on where it all went wrong!
