As Andy Lee basks in the glory of becoming a world champion after his marvellous sixth round victory in Las Vegas, it appears that the bout nearly never took place.
Apparently the fight was almost called off at the last minute as the British Boxing Board of Control (BBBOC) refused to sanction Andy Lee?s participation.
It seems that Lee owed the BBBOC a fee, said to be £750, from his previous bout against John Jackson in June.
Whilst frantic phone calls were made, it appears that Lee?s place on the bill was only saved when he used his United States Federal ID to sort the problem out.
It seems strange to me that such a prestigious fight could hinge on such a small amount of money!
£750 Almost Cost Lee His Glory!
