I grew up in the era when the middleweights and super-middleweights were rocking the joint.
In a time when we were blessed with so many good fighters I always had eyes for Nigel Benn.
He was my kind of fighter, never ducked anyone, gave it his best shot and reaped the rewards the sport provides.
After losing his world title he ventured across the pond to re-invent himself and once again glory came through those explosive fists and that desire to never give-up.
Possibly his greatest hour came in that tragic fight when Gerald McClellan suffered those awful injuries on a night where Benn dragged his way back from what looked to be certain defeat.
However, those nights seem even further away when I found out that today Nigel Benn, our former world middleweight and super-middleweight champion celebrates his 51st birthday today, my, how time flies.
